Does comfort REALLY matter?

Comfort should be taken in consideration when shopping for shoes. As consumers, we don't want to buy shoes that don't fit or put painful blisters on our feet. Does this mean we should forget all fashion rules and just buy the most comfortable pair of shoes? The answer to that question is NO! So then why do a majority of the population fall in the trend of unflattering comfortable shoes? The UGGS, the CROCS and the SPERRYS? They are by far the most thoughtless, horrendous, ugly BUT comfortable overworn pair of shoes.

  • UGGS- What started out as a great idea for super comfortable cozy shoes has gone overboard with their increasing popularity. As a college student I am reminded everyday by my peers just how unflattering and ugly UGGS really are, as several girls wear them everyday with sweats and Ts. Not only can you not wear them in the snow or rain since they are suede, but they really do not match anything. Maybe an Eskimo outfit. So why do people want to look like Eskimos? I really just don't have a clue!
  • SPERRYS- Originally started out as "boat" shoes, now a staple shoe for many. Not only can you buy the bland brown colors, but they now also come in every color of the rainbow! OK, so relaxing on the boat, or on a pier, maybe even going to the beach, would be a great occasion to wear your SPERRYs, but wearing them everyday to the point to which they are falling apart is not acceptable... Everyday I see the same people wearing the same exact pair of worn out dirty Sperrys with their new Lacoste and Polo shirts, and it just makes me wonder, if you have the money for a Lacoste shirt, then why not go buy yourself a good looking pair of shoes? There are many alternatives to the ugly boat if you are looking for comfort such as Nike, Adidas, New Balance and Reebok, which specialize in comfort.

  • CROCS- Ever since Crocs became popular on the market, they have only reminded me of one thing: Peasants. Growing up in Romania as a little girl I used to always go to the country side in the rural parts of Romania to visit my grandmother's sisters. They were always wearing croc-like shoes while milking the cows, beheading chickens and doing their gardening work. So I always wonder how such a peasant shoe has become one of the best selling shoes? If crocs were around in the past, they would have only been a proletariat's shoe, never worn by aristocrats or the bourgeoise. If you're going to wear a piece of rubber on your feet, then why not try on a matching trash bag as a suit?

So what else can you do besides buying CROCS, SPERRYS, and UGGS if you are looking for comfort? Believe me, they are NOT the only brands of comfortable shoes... Several brands of fashionable yet comfortable shoes are offered by numerous companies. So please, go buy yourself a new pair of shoes :

This is MY own personal opinion, my purpose is not to offend anybody, but rather bring light onto the issue of unflattering shoes. If you agree with me, then great; if not, maybe it is time to reconsider. i would personally intentionally put myself through the pain of wearing extremely uncomfortable, blistering pair of high heels than to ever be caught in a pair of Crocs, Sperrys or Uggs...
